Puerto Vallarta is a popular seaside resort, located along the Pacific coast of Mexico. The city, once a small fishing outpost, known for its mild climate, sparkling white sand beaches and world-class shopping.History
Puerto Vallarta was just a quiet fishing village in 1963, when director John Huston chose the location for filming of the play Tennessee William «The Night of the Iguana." The film stars was the paparazzi's favorite day: Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. The resulting media hoopla turned the area into an international destination almost overnight. The Burtons feel in love with the place and bought property in the hills overlooking the waterfront. A statue of John Huston in the town center reminiscent of the film.

* The Malecon - The center of the promenade is elaborately decorated with public art from one extreme to another. He has romantic scenes and eccentric modern sculptures by famous artists of Mexico and just fun to explore.

    
* Museo Rio Cuale - This small museum in the nearby Isla Cuale is accessible from Puerto Vallarta by footbridges. It offers a rare glimpse of pre-Columbian figures and many other items from the varied history of Mexico.

    
* Pink Bridge - Although not an official attraction, this monument is a milestone for Hollywood fans. It is the subtle arch that once connected Richard Burton and homes Elizabeth Taylor.

    
* Huichol Collection Gallery Museum - This museum, located near the central town square, has an excellent collection of Indian art, including intricate beaded masks, walls, and carved figures of animals. An artist within them are often seen working at the store.

    
* La Casa del Tequila - This unique shop is a tasting room where samples of many different Mexican tequila is available for sale and for tasting.

    
* Beaches - Puerto Vallarta is known for its beautiful beaches. The best are located south of the city, where smooth wide beaches are the norm.

    
* Shopping - Shopping is varied and rich. World-class boutiques compete with Mexican craft shops, a smattering of art galleries in between. Dedicated shoppers can easily find silver jewelry, leather goods, clothing, crafts, and more. Those staying in town for several days will want to avoid shopping when the big cruise ships are in port.

Renting a car in Puerto Vallarta is appropriate except just want to stay at the hotel resort. Having a car will allow you to explore the variety of beaches and scenic coastline.
